Verification
How Verification Works
MyLocalTrade supports trader verification and business checks to help improve trust and transparency between customers and independent tradespeople. The checks below may apply depending on the trader and the type of work.
Email verification
Traders verify their email address as part of account setup.
Phone verification
A valid phone number is confirmed during onboarding by a one-time SMS or RCS code.
Business information
Traders provide their business name, type and location.
Company details where applicable
For limited companies, registered company information may be reviewed where applicable.
Identity & contact checks
Identity and contact details may be requested and reviewed where applicable.
Public liability insurance where provided
Insurance information may be requested and reviewed where a trader provides it.
Trade qualifications where applicable
Qualification documents may be reviewed for regulated trades.
Authorised representative evidence
Where a trader acts on behalf of a business, evidence of their authority to represent it may be requested.
Manual review where required
Our team may review trader submissions before profiles go live.
What Verification Means
Verification is designed to improve trust and transparency on the platform. When a trader profile shows verified information, it means that specific detail or supporting document has been reviewed — for example, their email, phone, business information or insurance where provided.
Not all information on a profile will necessarily be independently verified. The level of verification may vary depending on the trader's plan, the type of trade and the documents provided.
Who Can Be Verified
MyLocalTrade is designed to support a range of independent UK tradespeople and businesses, including:
- Limited companies — where registered company details may be reviewed
- Sole traders — individuals trading under their own name or a business name
- Self-employed tradespeople working independently
- Authorised employees or managers acting on behalf of a trade business
The information requested may differ depending on the business structure — for example, a limited company may be asked for company details, while a sole trader may be asked for identity and contact information.
Authorised Representatives
Not every verified profile is managed by the legal business owner directly. In some cases, a profile may be set up and managed by an authorised representative — such as an employee or manager — acting on behalf of the business.
Where this is the case, we may ask for evidence that the person is authorised to represent the business before the profile is verified. This helps ensure that the people managing a trader profile are connected to the business they represent.
What a Verified Badge Means
A verified badge means that certain details or supporting documents provided by the trader — such as identity, business information, company details or public liability insurance, where applicable — have been reviewed by MyLocalTrade.
It does not mean that MyLocalTrade guarantees the quality, conduct, suitability or outcome of any work carried out.
Some verified profiles may be managed by an authorised representative of the business, such as an employee or manager, rather than the business owner personally.
Customers should always review quotes, credentials, insurance, experience and suitability before agreeing to any work.
What Verification Does Not Mean
Customers should always make their own checks before hiring a tradesperson — including independently reviewing quotes, confirming qualifications and credentials, checking that suitable insurance is in place, and satisfying themselves that the trader is suitable for the work.
Profile Changes After Submission
Traders can edit their information freely before submitting their profile for verification. After a trader profile has been submitted, changes to protected business and verified profile details require Admin review before they take effect. Changes made by customers to protected identity or contact details may also require Admin review.
Protected information may include the trader business/company name, contact name, phone number, website and business description, and a customer's personal name and phone number.
Phone number changes for both customers and traders additionally require one-time code verification before the review begins: a verification code is sent to the proposed new phone number, and the change request is only created after the code has been successfully verified. This is separate from the phone verification carried out during initial trader onboarding.
While a proposed change is being reviewed, the existing approved information remains active and displayed. We aim to review profile change requests within 48 hours; some requests may take longer if additional information or checks are required. Pending changes are not displayed publicly — only approved information appears in public, search and profile surfaces.
